1.11 - What Just Happened?

Ashley: Are you okay?
Spencer: Yeah, are you?
Ashley: Ugh, last night was rough. And you came to take care of me?
Spencer: Was there an option?
Ashley: Yeah, do what most people do when they're around me. Leave.
Spencer: No way, then life would just be too predictable.
Ashley: How do I look?
Spencer: Good.
Ashley: You suck at lying but I'm glad you try.

Ashley: I'm so sorry.
Spencer: This is how it is every morning?
Ashley: No, that only happens once a month, when I see her. [Spencer sits down next to Ashley on the bed]
Spencer: Did you really sleep with all those girls?
Ashley: Those were just the ones she found out about. None of them meant anything.
Spencer: And that makes it better?

Spencer: What are you doing?
Ashley: I'm checking your lifeline, I wanna know if you're going to be around for a while.
Madison: Get a room! Since when did this become the Island of Lesbos?
Spencer: It's hard to get pissed at her when she makes a geography joke. I wonder if she even knows what it means? We know her evil minions don't.
Ashley: You know you're right. We're gonna be late for class.

Spencer: I wish my parents weren't acting like complete freaks. Suspicious, controlling, I wish I didn't care.
Ashley: I have a lot of experience in this area. It's not you, it's totally them. Parents are not rational people. Something happens when you get older. I think it's hormones. They focus on you so they don't have to focus on themselves and all their crap.
Spencer: Thanks. [Spencer hugs Ashley]
Ashley: Uh, I have to go.

Spencer: What is up with you, Ashley? Look, sometimes you're pulling me close to you and then I try to take a step towards you and you close up and move away.
Aiden: Exactly.
Spencer: Can you give us a minute?
Aiden: Uh, sure, I'll be right over here if either one of you guys decides to "straighten up". [Aiden leaves]
Ashley: Cute. Do you want that life? Stupid, little comments about what you are and and how you feel? It's why I learned to laugh most things off because it hurts too much to do anything else.
Spencer: Look, you know what? I can't just be your friend Ashley. It has to be more than that or I'm out of your life. I need to figure out mine.

Ashley: What do I do about Spencer?
Aiden: Heh, don't ask me, I'm the only one in this school not hooking up.
Ashley: Yeah, but your loneliness gives you a certain clarity. What do I do?
Aiden: Do you wanna be with her?
Ashley: I don't know. What if I scare her away?
Aiden: I think you're the one that's afraid.
Ashley: No.
Aiden: Yes. I know from experience that you're the one that does the heartbreaking. Maybe, maybe you're afraid that Spencer's the one that's gonna break yours.

Spencer: So? [Ashley sits down next to Ashley]
Ashley: So I'm sorry. I'm sorry for the come here and go away trip I've been putting you through.
Spencer: Okay. Why would you do that?
Ashley: Because I want you. And I don't want to hurt you.
Spencer: I can take care of myself. And with some left over to take care of you.
Ashley: Come to my place tonight, my mom's gonna be in La Costa for a couple of days.
Spencer: Okay. [Spencer and Ashley smile at each other]
